Create Your Own Jewelry

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I love creating my jewelry. Even as a kid, I would ask my mom to buy me beads and some strings to make my own necklaces and bracelets.

A friend of mine asked my help in finding the perfect ring for his proposal to his girlfriend. We cant choose which one because some of them were too big and gaudy, while others were a little bit too understated. Some of them simply had the wrong combination of precious stone and form.

When I found a create your own rings store, I was so happy. I called up my friend.

Basically, it would let you create rings from a variety of different designs. You could not literally create ring designs from scratch – they did have certain set forms, settings, and materials. What they did allow you to do was to choose from a tremendous variety of elements, and combine them yourself. Between all of the different stones, the different designs, and the different ring materials, there were probably thousands of potential designs.

Of course, you can go one step further if you want. Nowadays, it is possible to make your own ring out of silver at home. Recently, Japanese artists invented a rather novel material. Basically, is a polymer clay with silver embedded in it. You can create ring out of clay, fire it, and end up with a pure silver ring! Unfortunately, my artistic skills are not all that. I knew that I would probably get a better reaction if I bought a ring than if I made one by hand. Still, it is nice to know that the option exists if I ever want to try my hand at making jewelry. I’ve been looking for a new hobby lately, and I’m thinking that I might just try it out.
